NETWORK CABLING

There 3 types of cable involved in networking. There;

  1. Coaxial Cable

  2. Twisted Pair Cable

  3. Fiber Optic Cable

Coaxial Cable

Coaxial cable are used for Bus Topology network. There two types of Coaxial Cable. Thick Coaxial (10Base5) dan Thin Coaxial (10 Base 2). The maximum distance for 10 Base 5 are 500 meters and 10 Base 2 are 185 meters. Coaxial cable can only carry 10 Mbps of bandwidth.

Coaxial Cable used Bayone-Neill-Concelman or BNC connector. There are three types of BNC connector;

  1. BNC-T Connector

  2. BNC Plug

  3. BNC Crimp Plug (Terminator)

Twisted Pair Cable

There is two type of  Twisted Pair cable that are mostly used for networking. There are;

  1. Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)

  2. Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)

The most type are used in networking are UTP. Until today there 6 types of  UTP cables are used, and the latest is Cat6a that can carry 1000Mbps of bandwidth (fast Ethernet). This kind of cable are used in Star Topology Network. There is 8 small wires inside UTP cables with 8 different colors.

STP cannot work very well in network environment that are surrounded by electrical equipment.

UTP used RJ-45 Connectors. RJ45 is a standard type of connector for network cables such as those used in Ethernet networks. RJ45 connectors feature eight pins to which cables interface electrically. RJ stand for Registered Jack.

The small cables inside UTP should follow TIA/EIA 568 cabling standard color code.

Fiber Optic Cable

Fiber optic cables carry information using pulses of light. These cables are designed for long distance network communications, although fiber to the home installations are becoming more common.

The are many types of connector used for Fiber Optic cables.

WIRELESS NETWORKING

In computer networking, wireless technology is a modern alternative to networks that use cables. A wireless network transmits data by microwave and other radio signals. To used wireless Networking , PC should used Wireless NIC
